Smart Technology Mentors Program (STMP)
Leading Illinois nonprofit service organizations are testing a program to provide older adults and people with disabilities free in-home assistance to install and operate smart devices and to enroll in money-saving utility programs.
From August to December 2020, the Smart Technology Mentors Program will send out trained students with adult supervisors to install any one of six popular smart home devices a homeowner has purchased in order to live more independently. These devices include:
Personal Assistant
Smart Light Bulbs
Smart Plug
Smart Doorbell
Smart Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Monitors
Smart Indoor Air Quality Monitor & Purifier Outlet

No, there is no cost for the installation visit. The homeowner need only purchase the device(s) they would like installed prior to the scheduled in-home visit.
Starting on August 1st and running through December 21st, 2020, installation visits are scheduled at the convenience of the homeowner and on the availability of the Program Coordinator and Student Technology Mentor.
Typically, these installation visits are scheduled during weekdays between the hours of 3:00 and 6:00 pm, although other time frames may also be available.
To schedule a visit, please complete and submit the sign up form above and the Program Coordinator will phone you to find the best time that works for you and the Student Technology Mentor.
Yes! You must have Internet service operating in the home prior to the scheduled installation visit. You must also purchase the device(s) you would like installed and have them in your possession prior to the visit.
